Wind Farm Debate – Part 2

What Is Your Opinion On The Wind Farms?

“You know everyone, rather than build new power stations or wind farms, if every house could turn off one ‘normal’ light bulb of 100 watts we could save a lot of energy. Consider this,
If each large town could find 10,000 homes to turn off one light bulb then we would save 1,000,000 watts (1 mega watt, or 1MW) of electricity.
Now if we could do this over 250 towns (im sure there must be 250 towns and suburbs with 10,000 or more houses), which is possible, this would save 250MW of power.
This equates to quite a few wind farms, or turning off a single unit at Hazelwood power station, which would save a lot of polluting gasses each year.
Now imagine, if you could do that with one light, and convert the rest of your globes to energy efficient globes and save, say, 300watts per house hold. This is easily acheivable at a small cost.
Or even put sky lights in your house so you dont need lights on during the day.
And then imagine if business got on board. The savings are endless.
Wow, we really could be proud of what we acheived if this happened, and we would have acheived much more than the greens are trying to do with wind farms, and the best thing of this option…it doesnt cost a cent to turn off light bulbs initally.

Makes the mind boggle when you think about it.” NA MORWELL

“Wind Farms? I hate them…..

Why spoil our absolutely beautiful coastline with these hideous looking things? The electricity they generate is just a drop in the ocean, so is it really worth it?…..

In my opinion it’s just paying lip service to the Greenies…..” RL KARDELLA

“Very value laden terms being used here. I don’t find the things the least bit ugly, and as for the ábsolutely beautiful coastline” reference that too is really just an opinion, albeit a common one. Much of the reaction to wind farm location referred to a ”pristine” location being spoilt was nothing but a furphy. As for the level of debate, it tended to be populist with little or no chance for a pro- windfarm voice. I don’t have an opinion either way, but certainly the local media took a very strong anti-windfarm posiition.” – RW MIRBOO NORTH

“The windfarm issue here in South Gippsland will never go away and the community should never go quiet on the issue of where to put these blasted things……….don’t let it go away people! Look around you, its worth fighting for.” TC FOSTER NORTH

“I laugh that the people most opposed to windfarms are often those who are “greenies” in other areas, but they are so used to the current means of power generation that they don’t seem to see the downsides.” CD TARWIN LOWER

“Who knows, maybe in a few years your new energy idea can be utilised to light up the world without consuming it at the same time, and then we can take down those wind turbines that have annoyed some, and there will be no gaping hole in the ground left behind to ruin the view.” – GF INVERLOCH
